A good day. The sergeant came to work. He put up the field range and oh, it was just fine. We had cocoa for the men and they did enjoy it so much. One man told me of how the French take grass and wire and make a screen to keep the Germans from seeing them. A corporal was very badly hurt, and his friends are proud of him because he stayed to the last, though so badly hurt. One told that in a fierce battle and the men were falling around him, he thought of us, that we were praying for him, and he felt encouraged. The stories are terrible of how the Germans treat our men. One man had his throat cut from ear to ear. He was a brave man and would rather die than be taken prisoner. The stories of our men’s bravery are great.
