Friday, April 19, 1918

Snowing very hard and it’s cold. The sun tries to shine. A large train of Red Cross men passed on their way to the front. The firing all the time is heavy. Saw many refuges go by and they did look as if they were suffering.

Thursday, April 18, 1918

A quiet day. All getting ready for the front. All waiting. It was very cold and raining. Went for a walk and played football with some children. It was fun. Wednesday, April 17, 1918

The men are off. Left at seven and the greatest sight I ever saw. The march lasted about six hours and it was a real treat to sing goodbye and a cheer. The happiest bunch of men I ever saw. Getting ready to go. All hands busy. The men are glad to go.

The boys had all day at the hut and were glad as they expect to go to the front.

Home again. The place was popular and crowded all the time.

Saturday, April 13, 1918

Got located and fixed the benches. Started up and the boys sure did enjoy it; the hut was crowded.

Came home and got located in a fine place. It had been a dance hall before the war and made a good place for us. Had a fine billet too.

Wednesday, April 10, 1918

Fixed the benches and chairs and viewed the land. Went to the next town called Trencha rau that is my boys resting place. They were very glad to see me, but could not locate until late.
