Baked as usual. The truck came and brought more girls. Capt. Bishop came to help. She is a very pleasant and cheerful girl. It was a very busy and happy day. Five of us slept in the room, a regular slum home but a happy one.

Made pies and donuts and it was fine. Oh, how the boys do enjoy the eats. They lined up like the chow line and laughed and enjoyed themselves very much.

Goodbye Ansauville. Left and went to Ligny and stayed there overnight. Then to my first place in charge. Capt. Young and Lt. Fussel are here. The 18th boys are here and are a fine lot. We have a nice hut and it is the popular place of the village.

A pleasant hustling day. A lot of baking. Sent a lot more to the front. A very busy time and it kept the two of us on the run. The men surely do love The Salvation Army and show it by the way they come and the kindness they show us. It is really wonderful. … Continue reading Thursday, March 14, 1918

Busy making pies. Miss Van Harden went away at eleven last night so Gladys and I were the only ones. Got supplies, made pies, and donuts to the trenches. Made cocoa and served it to the boys as they came out of the trenches. Kept open till the wee small hours.

My birthday and a very pretty one. I was busy making pies and donuts. Made cocoa and fried about 30 dozen eggs. A very busy and happy day. Gladys made me a peach pie for my birthday and then we gave it away. Had a jolly time making others happy.
